Sixties Scoop Indigenous Society of Alberta

What is the Sixties Scoop?
The Sixties Scoop is the catch-all name for a series of policies enacted by provincial child welfare authorities starting from the mid-1950s, which saw thousands of Indigenous children taken from their homes and families, placed in foster homes, and often adopted out to non-indigenous families from across Canada, the US, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Sixties Scoop Indigenous Society of Alberta (SSISA) is a non-profit society formed to create a community that will support and advocate for survivors, create and increase awareness of the Sixties Scoop Era through education and advocacy, and create dialogue through outreach and engagement so our truths can finally be told.
